Our Initiatives

Each of our initiatives reflect our belief in conscious living, where individual well-being, community harmony, and environmental balance go hand in hand. Through our projects, we aim to

  • Raise Awareness and Educate
  • Promote Sustainable Practices
  • Reduce Waste and Encourage Recycling
  • Focus on Mental and Emotional Well-being

We currently focus on three core areas: education, ecological regeneration and waste management — all designed to grow organically from the needs of our rural surroundings and ripple outward.

UGAM

Reviving the wisdom of natural farming

Unconventional Greener Agricultural Methods (UGAM) involve such practices that promote sustainability, conservation and environmental protection. These methods aim to mitigate the negative impact of conventional agriculture on the environment while still maintaining productivity and profitability.

Why UGAM?

Post-COVID, both individuals and governments have come to recognise that health and food security are among the most vital components of life. In this context, natural farming and sustainable development are increasingly seen as key to the survival of humanity and the health of Planet Earth.

Soil, air and water are the tangible basis of all life forms. The air in Himachal Pradesh is comparatively cleaner. But the same cannot be said of water, and not at all for soil, since in recent times there has been an increase in use of chemicals on farms. We are here looking at an integrated approach where agro-economy is not just ecologically sustaining but is the basis of overall sustainable development.

The crying need of our times is to wean everyone, especially children, pregnant women and other vulnerable segments of the society, away from chemicals and artificial support systems. The farmer today is hardly earning much from agriculture and spending much more on medications and fertilizer inputs. So much chemical input in agriculture has polluted our soil and water resources.

Nivritti, has created a practical role model of indigenous cow-based natural and sustainable agriculture in Shahpur Tehsil of District Kangra in Himachal Pradesh by creating natural model farms of diverse crops in about 10 acres area with success. The organization is in touch with local farmers and has been motivating them for the past few years. A strong sense of trust has been built with local farmers, enabling them to be receptive and actively engaged with Nivritti. We regularly conduct farmer training workshops, skill development programs, and awareness seminars.

Our focus areas:

  • Supporting natural and regenerative farming methods.
  • Sharing local knowledge through workshops and community building.
  • Creating economically viable and sustainable models for others to emulate and adopt.
  • Motivating farmers in the project area to adopt integrated agro-forestry and contribute significantly towards in situ conservation and preservation of flora and fauna.
  • Strengthening the efforts of the government to convert agricultural practices from conventional, chemicals-based to natural farming, since use of chemical fertilizers majorly add to soil pollution and global warming.

Ugam is not just about growing food,

it's about growing respect for nature values that nourish dignity for the farmers

Anushiksha

Small steps for Greater Learning

Anushiksha brings meaningful learning experiences to rural children and youth.
Beyond textbooks, we focus on curiosity, life skills, and joy – whether it’s through art, sports, dance, music or the spirit of volunteering.

The need for Anushiksha

Most children in villages go to the government schools in their vicinity. However, these schools often lack the exposure, opportunities, and support systems that are available to urban children. After school hours, there is little to no constructive engagement. Many children either browse unfiltered digital content (if they have access to devices) or simply loiter without purpose. As a result, most children in villages here end up either leading monotonous lives, from school-to-home-to-school, or drifting purposelessly hoping for any means of livelihood.

At Anushiksha, we try to engage them in meaningful and joyful learning — from Abacus and Vedic math to yoga, health and hygiene, soft skills, arts and crafts, self-defence, martial arts, classical and contemporary dance, music, and an introduction to India’s diverse cultural heritage. Education and entertainment combined in this manner makes the lives of the children more vibrant, happy and fulfilling. Through this initiative, we hope to empower children physically, mentally, emotionally and educationally.

Our focus areas:

  • Providing rural children an opportunity of holistic growth through various learning initiatives
  • Promoting ecological awareness through child-friendly projects
  • Promoting the country’s art and culture, and a spirit of patriotism
  • Introducing value-based education rooted in local culture
  • Provide them a platform to showcase their achievements through cultural events
  • Supporting rural youth in developing confidence and voice

Through Anushiksha, we aim to raise a generation that is rooted aware expressive

Refuse the Refuse

Because What We Throw Away Doesn’t Disappear

Refuse the Refuse (RTR) is our response to the growing challenge of rural waste. As plastic use reaches even the most remote villages, we’re working to build habits and systems for mindful use and proper waste management.

Our focus areas:

  • Awareness drives on plastic use and segregation
  • Community-led clean-up efforts and regular waste collection
  • Reuse, recycling, and safe disposal in collaboration with waste partners
  • Encouraging sustainable alternatives at source (like cloth bags, local packaging)

Celebrations & Community Spirit

Bringing people together with joy and purpose

Apart from our core initiatives, we also organize and host various festivals, cultural events, and seasonal gatherings that celebrate life, nature, and service.

These events:

  • Build community bonds across age and background
  • Honour local traditions and ecological cycles
  • Provide a platform for collective learning and joy

At Nivritti, every project — whether about farming, learning, or cleaning a forest trail — is an invitation.
An invitation to live with more awareness, more connection, and more care.

We welcome you to walk with us.
